Kit List

There will be 2 types of people – those who will never look at this section, and then those who trawl bike blogs for hours comparing kit decisions and attempting to make new discoveries. I used to be the former, but once I set the wheels in motion to leave I became the latter.

These kit lists have been invaluable in the planning of this trip, it’s been particularly good when people critique their kit, and it’s been reassuring to find out that there are certain items that there seem to be consensus on.

I am updating this kit list whilst in Central Peru, the heart of the Andes.  I have recently made many changes to my kit to allow for the changes in temperature and landscape.  The way I want to ride my bike has also evolved over the last year, something reflected in a recent blog post, less stuff more riding.

Off the bike / warm clothing and footwear

I started off in Mexico where it was warm and we spent a lot of time off our bikes so we had a lot of non cycling clothes.  It’s funny to think about all these non essentials I was lugging around. Since entering the Andes and the weather getting colder a lot of this stuff has been ditched and replaced. I was able to make revisions by visiting Tatoo, an outdoor clothing chain across many cities in South America.
